"Good Feeling" at business awards
FUN is not usually a word associated with business awards, however the 2012 Excellence in Business Awards (EBA) was just that.
EBA president Scott Lachmund jumped at the chance to create a fresh look this year which included a modern soundtrack and a heavy splash of colour to the Caboolture RSL setting.
The first year partnership with Caboolture Business Enterprise Centre (CBEC) also proved to be a success.
Decked out with balloons and confetti the RSL provided a fantastic environment for the glammed-up guests.
Flirtesque quartet Candy Shop Show Australia offered cabaret-style dance routines to both modern and classic music.
Mr Lachmund embraced social media and started a playful Facebook competition to get the most likes on a EBA check-in status, a game which quickly caught on.
While she may have been accused of bribing her likers, Caboolture Special School's Jenny Butler convincingly claimed the competition with more than 70 likes in a matter of minutes with promise to donate the prize to the school.
Despite 16 awards to deliver and sponsors to thank, speeches were short and sweet.
The Geoff Mazlin Encouragement Award was presented for the first time with Woorim business, The Crab Pot, claiming the honour.
The Young Business Person of the Year went to Josh Long from the Bellmere Butcher, who also claimed the Retail Under 10 Employees award.
Bribie Island businesswoman Sharon Ross claimed the Business Person of the Year award for Your Space along with the New Business (under 12 months) award.
DeVere Cleaning's Sarah Wapou looked surprised to take out her well-deserved Customer Service honour.
Mr Lachmund stressed the importance of encouraging young workers to achieve great things when he awarded the Young Apprentice/School Based Trainee of the Year to Jessica Fitzpatrick-Finlay.
CBEC's Shane Moon awarded Coffee Club Central Lakes with the CBEC Business of the Year.
The fun continued with a karaoke competition. While it took a bit to convince the business crowd to get up and sing, Caboolture News GM Errol McMillan jumped at the chance to offer his ode to Christina Aguilera via Good Feeling.
The 2012 Excellence in Business Awards was a great success, providing a fresh approach to a Caboolture and Bribie Island business tradition.
Well done winners!
