WITH the end of one financial year, business networking groups are already busily planning and outlining strategies to embrace the next 12 months.

Bribie Island Chamber of Commerce president Rhonda Cockinos said a big focus over the next 12 months would be on encouraging people to shop locally and support local businesses.

"We'll also be working on trying to bring more visitors to Bribie Island and the surrounding area to show off what we have to offer," she said.

"We see it as a win-win opportunity for both Caboolture and Bribie if we work together and share business and tourism to keep the flow going across the region."

Ms Cockinos said the chamber, which is currently working on an advertising campaign, would also continue to put their support behind members and provide opportunities for other members of the business community to join the chamber.

"We have seen many businesses struggling so we'll continue to support members as much as we can," she said.

"We'll encourage networking opportunities and try to get business booming and push for more businesses to advertise and get themselves out there."

Commerce Caboolture president Stefan Boni said there were many things happening for the group over the next 12 months but a big focus would be on boosting confidence.

"It's a mixed bag out there at the moment, some businesses are doing okay and others are doing it tough," he said.

"Hopefully we can restore some confidence and show that it's not all doom and gloom."

Commerce Caboolture will be working hard on their Melbourne Cup event, which ran for the first time last year, to make it a bigger and better event.

"We'll be investing more time in our monthly dinners, acquiring guest speakers that add value whether it be in an educational, inspirational or entertaining way," Commerce Caboolture committee executive/secretary Mr Pitt said.

"We're always looking at ways we can improve and different strategies to provide information for businesses out there.

"Commerce dinners provide an opportunity for people to chat about business in a casual environment and share experiences."

Tonight the two commerce groups will come together at Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club to celebrate the end of one financial year and the beginning of a new one.
