IN THE Moreton Bay Regional Council meeting on Tuesday, councillors unanimously approved to name a section of Bongaree's foreshore after former councillor Gary Parsons.
Thirty-two submissions were received, half in approval and half in objection to the proposal.
Division One councillor Brooke Savige addressed the submissions objecting to the proposal.
"We're recognising his overall contribution, not just his contribution as councillor,” Cr Savige said.
"I think it's right my community acknowledge that.”
Division 12 councillor Adrian Raedel commended Gary Parsons during the meeting.
Cr Raedel said Mr Parsons has been known to collect leftover bread from bakeries and deliver it to Bribie's elderly who could not access or afford the staple food item.
Among other things, MrParsons is also known for his Legacy fundraiser in 1999, running 17,071km to raise thousands of dollars for the charity.
