THE power of community was made clear last week as a small cleaning company took the time to lend a helping hand.

A Burpengary family found itself on the verge of eviction last week after a mentally ill family member unexpectedly caused a large amount of damage to a rental home.

Unfortunately the breakdown left the rest of the family unsure where to turn next.

Luckily Caboolture Family Haven was able to provide assistance.

The Haven organised appropriate care for the family member involved and offered to help clean up the damaged home.

When owners of the Cleaning Bug Caboolture, Tony and Jennie Fiechtner received a call from Family Haven asking for a quote to clean up the mess, the couple couldn't bring themselves to charge for the service.

"Gail called us and mentioned the situation, she asked me for a quote but after I heard the story I sat my team down and asked if we could do this one on us," Tony said.

"We've all been in a situation like this one, it's hard to find people who will give a hand for nothing.

"Before we started this business I was living in a tent at the back of my mum's house, I know what it's like to be down on your luck."

Tony estimated the damage to be between $4500 and $5000.

"It was pretty messy, we had four people volunteering to clean it up," he said.

Tony said he hoped their efforts would allow the family to continue to live in the home.

"I'm hoping they will be able to stay there, as they've been through a pretty hard time," he said.

"I've seen a fair few tenants that have destroyed properties in my job but there are some situations you have just gotta look past."
