A MORAYFIELD home has been badly damaged in a fire.

Emergency crews were called to the home at 2.35pm, nobody was home at the time.

Residents of the Northfields complex watched on while fire crews extinguished the blaze. Newly weds living at the premises had only moved five months prior after purchasing new furniture for their home.

Neighbour Keith Hyde was one of the first to sound the alarm.

"I kicked the door in, went inside and yelled out and ask if anyone was there, but I couldn't hear anything," he said.

"Then the firies arrived."

Residents of the two story brick complex were unharmed.

Four crews attended the scene and put the blaze out by 3pm.

Witnesses could see black smoke from Morayfield Road.

An investigation is currently underway to find the cause of the fire.
