Gillett's keen to be seen
AFTER being inconspicuous in his first two State of Origin outings Bribie Island boy Matt Gillett says he is determined to get his hands on the ball in tonight's decider.
After breaking into the Maroons side through some brilliant club form, the Brisbane Broncos utility has been kept quiet in the opening games of the series.
Statistics reveal the extent to which Gillett has been blunted in attack and has failed to find his feet in the game's biggest arena.
In game one he made just five carries for 35 metres while in game two he managed just four hit-ups for a 21-metre gain.
In the NRL this year he has averaged a handy 70 metres, 19 tackles and 2.35 tackle busts.
Gillett said his limited output for Queensland was mostly due to the Blues being in a controlling position when he was injected into the action, however, he was determined to be at his attacking best for Queensland at Suncorp Stadium.
"The way the game was going when I was out on the field, when Cooper got sent off for that 10 minutes (in game two), we were on the back foot for a little bit there," he said.
"We were doing a lot of defence in that time. But I definitely want to get my hands on the ball more."
Gillett has been one of the good news stories of this year's series, beating off challenges from the likes of Daly Cherry-Evans, Ben Barba and Dave Taylor for a bench spot.
Since making his Origin debut in game one he said the buzz of playing for his state still had not worn off. He said he expected the experience of playing in front of a sold out and parochial crowd to be one of the experiences of his life.
"I'm pretty excited to be playing the last game and in the decider," he said.
"To be playing up here at Suncorp Stadium, I'm really looking forward to it."
