COMPETITION has ramped up on The Voice on the first live show.

Twelve singers overcame their nerves to perform on live television and appeal to the voting public.

Again, the four coaches led by example, opening the show with a group performance of Sing by My Chemical Romance.

Fatai Veamatahau, from Team Seal, kicked off the performances with Empire State of Mind.

The most impressive performances of the night came from the ladies.

Blues singer Karise Eden, also from Team Seal, did not disappoint with her performance of Nothing's Real But Love, but the song did not show off the 19-year-old's full range.

Emma Louise Birdsall was another highlight of the night, looking glamorous in a full-length red gown as she sang I Never Loved a Man.

Angelic-voiced Adelaide teen Rachael Leahcar, from Team Delta, received a standing ovation for her show-closing performance of Jewel's Little Sister.

"It was the perfect way to end the first live show of The Voice," said Joel Madden.

Faustina "Fuzzy" Agolley also made her debut as the V Room host.

Next week Joel Madden and Keith Urban's singers will perform and the results of the public voting from tonight's show will be revealed.

Viewers can vote via phone and SMS ($0.55 per call or text), on Facebook and through iTunes until next Monday.
