TWO of the Moreton Bay United FC's young guns will play against triple A-League champions Brisbane Roar in an exhibition match at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre on September 24.

Centre midfielder Matt Capelo and utility forward Finn Beakhurst were among 18 players selected in the National Premier League Qld U23 Select Squad.

Moreton Bay United FC technical director Adam Piddick said having two players join the squad to challenge the Roar in their pre-season was evidence of how far the club had come.

"You can see the juniors coming through now,” he said.

"The environment's so much better - it's more professional.

"There's a heap of young kids playing.”

Piddick expected Beakhurst to start, either as an attacking midfielder, winger or striker.

"He's quick, good technically and has great skills,” he said.

"He's only young but he probably played more games than he expected to this season.

"He got good experience and he's just got to learn and adapt his game for longer periods.”

After Capelo suffered a broken leg playing six-a-side at the beginning of the year, Piddick said the club's player of the year should come off the bench to demonstrate his intelligent play.

"The last three or four games he's started to find that form,” he said.

"Matty's evolved but there's still along way ago.”

Facing the Roar will not be an entirely new experience for the both of them. Capelo was in the Jets side that lost 8-1 in a pre-season game at Ballymore in 2014, while Beakhurst spent 10 weeks training with the Roar this year.

Entry to the Nathan venue in Brisbane's south is free. Kick-off is at 3pm.
