Nugget will defend title at home
IN a first for Deception Bay, professional boxer Jason "Nugget" Cooper will defend his Queensland featherweight title against kickboxing champion Matt Seden on July 14, with his home town by his side.
While 20-year-old Cooper will have the support of the Deception Bay community behind him, his strong opposition will not go down without a worthy fight.
Organiser Damian Smith was pleased to finally be able to host a professional fight at Deception Bay and showcase Cooper's talents to the professional boxing world.
"He has trained here for 10 years,'' Smith said.
"He came to the gym one day and we couldn't get rid of him.
"This is his fifth fight and we're expecting big things from him.''
While the card will focus heavily on the professionals, it will also place the spotlight on the up and coming amateurs in the region, including Durant Jackson, Carl Jackson, Chantelle Hissey and Stacey Lauifata.
"It's great for younger fighters to be able to see where they can go.
"We've got seven fighters from our own club so it will definitely be a night to remember.''
