Waiting times put patients at risk
ONE of the region's top doctors says patients will die because of ballooning waiting times at Caboolture Hospital.
Recently-released statistics reveal the hospital is one of the worst performing in the state with half of all Caboolture emergency department patients waiting 52 minutes or more just to be seen.
Australian Medical Association Queensland North Coast area representative Dr Wayne Herdy said the hospital was performing below Queensland standards and far below world standards.
He said the facility, which sees about 1800 patients every month, was under-resourced and the situation would only get more dire as the region continued to grow.
"People are going to be neglected," he said.
"Many patients' clinical outcomes are not going to be as good."
"Some operations are going to be much bigger than if they were dealt with in a timely fashion. People will die."
