THE hunt is on to find the Rockhampton woman whom a young Tony Abbott took a liking to more than 30 years ago.

During an interview with 4RO presenter Michael J Bailey earlier this week, the Opposition Leader let slip he used to fancy a woman living in Rockhampton.

"Last time I went to Mount Morgan was in 1980," Mr Abbott said.

"I was passing through Rockhampton on my way up to PNG.

"I took the train from Sydney to Cairns... it was when I wanted to walk the Kokoda Track.

"There was a young lady I was quite keen on who lived in Rocky and we went up to Mount Morgan and looked at the historical mine site."

Four years later, Mr Abbott started his studies to become a priest at St Patrick's Seminary at Manly and in 1988 he married wife Margaret Aitken, and the two have three grown daughters.

But we want to know... what happened to the mystery woman?

Where is she now?

If you can remember young Tony's visit or can shed any light on who the woman is please contact The Morning Bulletin on 4930 4281.
