Nutcracker role is the pointe of ballet competition

THE pointe of this children's ballet competition is simple - dance your way into a walk-on role in The Nutcracker on December 21.

The Wish Upon a Ballet Star competition kicks off today.

Queensland youngsters aged between three and 13 have the chance to dance with members of the Queensland Ballet during the troupe's big Christmas performance.

Parents and guardians can nominate their child by uploading a creative photo along with a 100-word statement about what inspires their ballet star to dance.

Entries close on November 6 and the winner will be announced on November 26.

Thee prize also includes four tickets to the show, a meet and greet with ballet star Li Cunxin and other dancers, a portable ballet barre and $200.
