FOOTBALL: Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy's hopes of a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals have ended after Manchester City thrashed Huddersfield Town 5-1 in their fifth-round replay.

Mooy is on loan at the Championship outfit from City and had to sit out the clash at the Etihad Stadium because his host team would not let him play for the Terriers.

Huddersfield took a shock lead when Claudio Bravo allowed Harry Bunn's effort to squirm under his body but that only awoke the English Premier League giant from its slumber.

Leroy Sane brough City before a penalty from Sergio Aguero and a close-range finish from Pablo Zabaleta stretched the lead to 3-1 at the break after three goals in eight minutes.

Aguero was on target again in the second half before Kelechi Iheanacho rounded off the scoring in stoppage time to earn City an away tie against fellow EPL side Middlesbrough in the last eight.
