WHILE Blake Boyle is only new to the art world, he has certainly made his mark.

The 15-year-old St Columban's College student was recently crowned Young Australian Artist of the Year for his painting titled A Very Balloon Day.

Despite his exceptional talent, Boyle remains pretty relaxed when it comes to his art.

"We only sent his entry in on closing day," proud mum Tammy Boyle said

"I honestly didn't think he would win, we were just wanting a certificate to say he had entered.

"It was 12 days later we found out he'd won."

While others spend years working to win art competitions, Blake has only been painting for the best part of a year and is yet to own his first set of paints or brushes. Instead he works once a week under the guidance of art tutor Darla Boyd of Your Art Studio, Caboolture.

"He's a typical artist, not too fussed on time constraints but he is very passionate about it," Tammy said.

"Now that he knows he can do it I think it is something he will always do."

Blake and his family recently travelled to Melbourne to receive his trophy.

His work will travel the country for the next 12 months.
