BROTHER and sister act Sara and Hayden Jones will be racing well above their age groups Caboolture leg of the south-east Queensland BMX Shootout this weekend.

Sara, 13 and Hayden, 15 will both be racing in the highest available adult division.

Both are confident of doing well, with Hayden aiming for finals and Sara expecting to take out the win.

"I've gotten faster," she said.

Hayden said he too was feeling well prepared for the shootout.

"I'm ready," he said.

"I've put in more effort in the lead-up."

BMX started off as Hayden's "thing" when he took up the sport at just three years old.

Sara was more interested in dancing originally but she quickly took a shine to competing on two wheels.

It wasn't long before she caught up to her brother, earning plenty of recognition and even a sponsorship.

Their careers have followed surprisingly similar paths, as both sit third in the nation for their age group and share the same sponsor, Yessbmx.

"People seem to think that they're twins because they do everything together," Anita said.

"They forget she's two years younger.

Hayden said he didn't mind sharing the limelight with his sister.

"It's good because there aren't that many girls in BMX," he said.

The shootout itself is a big deal for the Caboolture BMX Club, drawing between 400 and 500 riders.

Caboolture is home to about 150-200 riders and most will compete but "some are out with broken bones", president Phil Cooper said.

"You've got riders from all over south-east Queensland and in the pros, riders from around Australia.

"You get to see some good riding."

Every age group from under-5s to over-50s will be represented.

Riding begins Saturday with the pros at 3pm before the younger riders start. It should wrap up by 8.30pm.
