Bystanders 'frantically' tried to save trapped girl, 13

UPDATE: BYSTANDERS tried frantically to save a young girl trapped under a forklift on a Southern Downs property but were unable to save her life.

The 13-year-old girl was killed when a forklift rolled on top of her after she was thrown from the vehicle when it veered off a dirt track on a private property on Dalcouth Rd at Kyoomba about 12.45pm.

A police spokesman said the girl had been using the forklift when it veered off a dirt track, throwing her from the cab.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said bystanders at the scene were performing CPR on the girl while calling paramedics to the scene.

Ambulance crews arrived a short time later and tragically, declared the girl deceased within minutes of arrival due to the extent of her injuries.

"Two units did go but only one made it on scene," the spokesman said.

"The other was stood down on the way.

"Paramedics declared the patient deceased on arrival."

The girl's next of kin has been notified.

Police Forensic Crash Unit investigators are reviewing the incident and Workplace Health and Safety investigators have been notified.

Emergency services were called to a private property on Dalcouth Rd at Kyoomba about 12.45pm with reports a girl was trapped.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said bystanders at the scene were performing CPR on the girl while paramedics arrived at the property.

However, paramedics declared the girl deceased within minutes of arrival due to the extent of her injuries.

"Two units did go but only one made it on scene," the spokesman said.

"The other was stood down on the way.

"Paramedics declared the patient deceased on arrival."

The girl's next of kin has been notified.

Police remain at the scene and investigations are continuing.

EARLIER: A 13-year-old girl has died in a tractor accident on a property near Stanthorpe.

Emergency services crews were called to the scene at Dalcouth Rd, Kyoomba earlier this afternoon.

Investigations are ongoing.
