RUGBY UNION: Defending Super Rugby champions, the Hurricanes, exploded out of the blocks in their season-opening match, defeating the Sunwolves 83-17 in Tokyo.
But the Kiwi side lost focus in the last 20 minutes, after leading 83-5 after an hour.
The Hurricanes scored 13 tries to three for the franchise's highest-ever points total and the fifth-highest in Super Rugby history.
The outclassed Sunwolves missed 40 tackles and conceded 16 turnovers.
Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea, who scored the opening try after just five minutes, said his side lost their way in the final quarter.
"It kind of blew out a bit but we wanted to maintain our structure and keep to our system, and not do stuff we hadn't trained," Savea said.
"That last 20, we kind of fell off and they came back firing, so we've got to look at that.
"We always knew they'd keep fighting."
