Man's cannabis stash found in pants, bedroom

A NORMAN Gardens man who was caught concealing over 80g of cannabis in his pants and bedroom was sentenced to 12 months' probation yesterday.

Steven Joseph Veach pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug-related utensils after police intercepted him at his home on September 11.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox told the court police nabbed Veach at his Norman Gardens home when they noticed a strong smell of burnt cannabis as they spoke to him at his back door.

The court heard police uncovered 40.8g of cannabis in two clip-seal bags in his trouser pockets and a further 39.4g in four clip-seal bags in his bedroom.

Police also found a glass water pipe with cannabis residue and two brass pipes with cone pieces during the search.

When asked if a criminal conviction would affect his employment, Veach, who represented himself, told Magistrate O'Driscoll, "only if I go to jail".
