A 21-year-old Coast man caught with more than 800 child porn images has told a court some of them dated back to when he was in Year 9 at school.

COREY Carpenter is a carpenter by trade but yesterday he appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court from behind custody glass.

The 28-year-old handed himself into police on three traffic charges and a warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear at a previous court mention.

Carpenter pleaded guilty to one count each of driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, driving unlicensed and contravening the direction of police after he was nabbed taking his car to be repossessed on August 29.

Police prosecutor Danita Clarke told the court Carpenter was taking his car, which had not been registered or insured since June, to the impound yard when it got a flat tyre on the nature strip on Olive Rd.

He told police the car had been repossessed and he was taking it to the wreckers.

With a SPER suspended license and without a car, Carpenter was unable to report to the police station to identify his particulars within seven days of the incident as instructed by police.

A defence lawyer said Carpenter had "fallen on hard time financially".

Carpenter was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for one month plus fined $200 for the unlicensed driving charge with no conviction recorded.
