Chaos as dogs set loose from Qld animal shelter

THE RSPCA has responded harshly after someone deliberately released thirty-one dogs from the Townsville Animal Care Centre, the Brisbane Times reports.  

While 11 of the dogs have been returned, 20 more have been on the loose since early Sunday morning. 

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said the incident had not only put the dogs at risk but had risked the lives of motorists in the area.

"The trouble is it's not that far from the main highway in Townsville," he told AAP.

"They could get out on the road and obviously get run over themselves but potentially cause accidents on the highway."
