Two dead as horror head-on collision closes Cunningham Hwy

LATEST: A BRISBANE couple in their 60s have been killed in a crash on the Cunningham Hwy near Leslie Dam.

Emergency services responded to the collision between a car and semi-trailer just after midday today that caused a portion of the highway to be closed.

Police believe that just east of the Strickfuss Road intersection at Allan, the vehicles collided head on.

The truck was thrown into a jackknife while the car caught fire.

The two people in the car died at the scene.

There is now a diversion on Sandy Creek Road for both directions.

Department of Transport is warning drivers to be cautious on the road.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital for observation.

Investigations into the cause of the crash will continue.
