NEW data shows 45 per cent of Australians cheat on their significant other however it doesn't mean what you may be thinking.

That's because the data comes from Netflix.

Have you ever been watching your favourite show with your partner, parent or a friend, only to come home late one night and find out they are three episodes ahead?

This is Netflix cheating and while it may not be as morally culpable as having an affair it can be just as damaging to your relationship.

According to the US streaming giant the hard fact on the phenomenon are:

  • 45 per cent of Australians have "Netflix Cheated" on their significant other (53 per cent of who are either married or in a relationship)
  • 61 per cent don't confess that they've cheated on their partner
  • 68 per cent would cheat more if they knew they would get away with it
  • 72 per cent cheat more than once, while 41 per cent have cheated three or more times
  •  Australians are more likely to cheat on drama content than any other nationality in the world (57 per cent) - and we all know that cheating on drama is SO much more serious than cheating on say, comedy!
  • One in four (24 per cent) have gotten into a verbal argument about cheating

"What's more, the study shows that Aussies are the biggest drama queens globally. At 57 per cent, Australians are more likely to Netflix cheat on Drama content than any other nationality in the world," a Netflix spokesman said via a statement.

"And it's not just in Australia, it's across the globe; in a binge-watching world where it's easy to say 'just one more,' Netflix cheating has quickly become the new normal..."
