Education Qld staff sacked over child abuse IT failure

MORE senior Education department staffers have been sacked over the IT system failure which left more than 1000 cases of suspected child abuse unreported.

Education director-general Jim Watterson had asked staff members identified in an independent Deloitte report into the failure to show cause regarding mistakes made during the implementation process following the report's release on Monday.

On Wednesday, Mr Watterson announced an assistant director-general and an executive director had been sacked from the department, effective immediately, bringing the number of people fired over the failure to four.

"I have issued a show cause notice to another departmental officer," Mr Watterson said in a statement.

"The staff directly responsible for coding and testing the upgrade were contractors, and their contracts have been terminated."
