Ipswich man dies in Yatala factory fire

A IPSWICH man was killed in yesterday's fire at a factory in Yatala.

Matthew O'Brien, 38, was a well-known Ipswich rugby league identity who was killed in an accident at an oil recycling plant about 8am.

Police said a truck was dumping a load of material near an open air container when a fire ignited at the premises on Sandy Creek Rd.

Firefighters said co-workers rushed to move other containers of flamable liquid after the fire started, possibly preventing further injuries and damage.

Workplace Health and Safety will investigate the accident, while police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
