TWO-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar has been added to next year's Bluesfest line-up.

The American hip-hop artist will headline the first night of the five-day festival, which will be held at Tyagarah near Byron Bay from March 24 to 28.

Lamar joins an already packed bill of headliners including Tom Jones, Noel Gallagher, The National and City and Colour.

The Compton-born artist is one of the world's current top rappers and hip-hop artists and in 2013 MTV named him No 1 on its Hottest MC in the Game list.

His most recent album To Pimp A Butterfly debuted at No 1 on both the US Billboard chart and the ARIA albums chart.

So far 32 artists have been named for the 27th annual festival, with more announcements to come before the end of the year.
