FIVE venues across the Sunshine Coast have started pouring the Coast's newest local craft beer on tap.

Your Mates Brewing Co launched its first beer, a pale ale, at venues in Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Noosa Heads at the weekend.

Co-owners Matt Hepburn and Christen McGarry said they wanted to make their brew sessionable.

"On a hot day you want to have not just one but, you know, six beers," Matt said.

The beer's distinctive mango and passionfruit aroma was inspired by Queensland flavours, and targeted Queenslanders who enjoyed a refreshing summer brew.

Matt, a qualified town planner, quit his job to pour beers in Caloundra's Drift Bar, where he now works as an events manager.

It was there he met Christen, who quit teaching to work at Drift.

"We both pretty much taught ourselves how to brew and started a business," Matt said.

"We have been developing a recipe over the last two years and we were really happy with it so we decided to take the next step."

He said support from the hospitality community had allowed their beer to hit the counter.

"We're really happy about it," he said.

"Obviously a lot of the venues aren't corporations, they're privately owned, and they're just locals helping locals."

Your Mates Brewing Co would focus on serving beer to Sunshine Coast venues for now, and after two years the pair was only now turning their minds to developing a second beer, Matt said.

"Your Mates Pale Ale is quality. We're just launching with one style, and it'll be our flagship style," he said.

The 'simultaneous' launch idea came together easily thanks to the pair's connections in the Coast hospitality industry, and was a fine example of locals helping locals, Matt said.

"We had those relationships - everyone knows each other on the Coast," he said.
