MADELINE Stuart has been nominated for Australian of the Year.

The young Mount Crosby model with Down syndrome announced her nomination on social media yesterday when she arrived back in Australia after modelling at New York Fashion Week.

Her mother Rosanne said Madeline was thrilled at hearing the news and looked forward to seeing where the nomination would lead her.

"It's amazing. Maddy is touching so many people's hearts and it's just phenomenal," Ms Stuart said.

"She was nominated by a few people for Australian of the Year.

"It hasn't even been five months since this all started and she has almost half a million followers. I think it's because it's not about Maddy or modelling. It's about inclusion for people with disabilities and helping others."
