Pizza store employee fights off robbers with broom

UPDATE: An investigation into the armed robberies of two service stations at Inala and a pizza shop at Bundamba on Saturday night have resulted in four men and one woman being charged.

It will be alleged just after 8pm, three men who intimated they were armed, entered a Rosemary Street service station and demanded the male attendant open the door to the counter area. When he refused, the group left the store.

It will further be alleged around 8.15pm, the same men attended a service station on Rudd Street where they confronted the staff member at the counter with what appeared to be a firearm wrapped in material and took money and cigarettes.

It will also be alleged around 9.30pm four masked men threatened staff at a pizza shop on Brisbane Road at Bundama with what appeared to be a replica firearm wrapped in material with three of group jumping over the counter and attempting to unsuccessfully open the till.

An 18-year-old Redbank woman, a 19-year-old Helidon Spa man, 19-year-old Ellen Grove man, a 22-year-old Dinmore man and a 25-year-old South Brisbane man have each been charged with one count of armed robbery in company and two counts of attempted robbery with violence in company whilst armed.

The Dinmore man has also been charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle used to commit indicatable offence and wilful damage. 

All five are expected to appear at the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.


EARLIER: One brave employee has fought off a group of masked men with a broom after they attempted to rob a pizza store in Bundamba on Saturday night.

Just before 9.30pm, the four masked men entered the Brisbane Rd premise and threatened staff with what was believed to be a replica firearm wrapped in a towel.

Three of the men jumped the counter and directed staff to get to the ground while they tried to access the till.

The group left the store empty-handed when the employee ran at them with the broom.

Investigations are still continuing.
