A SOUTH Mackay man has allegedly gouged the eye of a police officer after being refused entry to a nightspot on Victoria Street.
Police were called to a licensed venue at 1.30am on Monday after reports of a disturbance.
Police say officers came across an aggressive man who had been refused re-entry to the venue
Police will further allege when they attempted to take the man into custody he struck one officer in the eye before being arrested.
A male constable received treatment at the scene for bruising and swelling to his eye.
A man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police causing bodily harm and creating a disturbance in a licensed premises.
He is due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on April 14.
