Do you have a debit/credit approach to exercise?

A NEW survey shows 83% of Australians believe the occasional treat helps them maintain exercise goals, and three quarters turn to exercise to redeem themselves for over-indulging.

What's clear is that this ongoing 'credit' and 'debit' approach means that moderation is motivation, with young active Aussies believing that exercising is worthy of a 'personal credit' they can later redeem for a beer, glass of wine, piece of chocolate or treat.

"The concept of virtue and vice makes sense to us as it creates balance in our lives," Social scientist Dr Julian Oldmeadow said.

"Research shows that people tend to keep a mental ledger of 'debit' and 'credit' when it comes to exercise and socialising, allowing themselves a treat when they've built up exercise 'credit'.

"Rewards are motivating and can be a very effective way to stay on track."The survey was conducted by Pure Blonde beer company.
