Clayfield shooting victim drove himself to hospital

4:15 PM QUEENSLAND police want witnesses to a shooting at Clayfield this afternoon to come forward.

Police have just confirmed a gun went off and a man was injured during an incident at the suburban shopping centre.

"Initial investigations indicate that around 12.45pm two men became involved in an altercation in a carpark at Bonnie Ave," a police spokesperson said.

"During the altercation a firearm was discharged.

"At this time it is not believed to be a random incident.

"Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information that may assist with investigations to call Crime Stoppers."

The injured man drove himself to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

POLICE are investigating claims a man has been shot at a Brisbane shopping centre this afternoon.

It is believed the victim drove himself to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after he was shot following a confrontation with three other men in the Clayfield shopping centre car park just after noon.

One witness claims the four men had an altercation near the local Red Rooster on the corner of Bonney Ave and Sandgate Rd before the shooting.

The shopping centre worker said three of the men took off in a black Holden.

A Queensland Police media spokesman said officers were looking into the shooting claims.

"We are at the incident but we are trying to ascertain what happened," he said.

"We haven't identified a victim at the scene."

THERE are reports a man with a gun has opened fire outside a shopping centre in Clayfield, north of Brisbane. 

A person has reportedly been shot and the gunman has fled the scene on the corner of Bonney Avenue and Sandgate Road.

A staff member at one of the nearby shops told Fairfax a man was shot in the back after being confronted by three men outside the centre's Red Rooster franchise.

"He was running backwards and was holding his back, around his waist," she said.

"They shot and they ran."
