A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for Toowoomba, the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning at 12.40pm today.

It warns that severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours.

Locations that may be affected include Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Stanthorpe and Taroom.

The next warning is due to be issued by 3.40pm.
