PART of Sydney's CBD is in lock-down following threats made to the Fair Work Commission.

NSW police have confirmed a building on the corner of Oxford and Wentworth Streets was evacuated after what was described as a "serious threat, not counter-terrorism related."

The ABC is reporting that police wearing bullet-proof vests have searched the 10th floor of a 23 storey building.

People are being asked to avoid the area.
