A MOTORSPORT park for the Sunshine Coast is big news at the moment, but quality motorsport is already well established with the Historic Noosa The Hill, Hill Climb.
Sponsored by Southern Cross Sheds, the annual hill climb weekend starts this Saturday, and for this 17th edition, even more renovations have been made to improve the experience for both spectators and competitors.
The 1.5km 14-corner Gyndier Dr course through Tewantin State Forest remains the same - as tricky and unforgiving as ever - and has attracted 160 competitors this year piloting a huge array of racing cars.
Hill Climb chairman Jay Bowden, of the Noosa Beach Classic Car Club, said practically any style of car you could imagine would be competing.
"There will be some of Australia's fastest open-wheel hill climb specials and a range of classic cars such as GT Falcons, BMWs, Datsun 1600s, Escorts, Jaguars and more modern Porsches and Subarus," he said.
The pit area for competitors has been increased again this year after extensive stump clearing and levelling, there's a new re-fuelling area and hot mix has been put down from the pits to the start line for the drivers.
"There's also a new walking track for spectators to get easy access to the start line, where there are two grandstands.
"There are further grandstands at turn eight and turn 10, and a bus will run to drop people off at turn eight, where there are toilets and refreshments available," Mr Bowden said.
"It will be better all round for everybody, and Parks and Wildlife has been extremely helpful in allowing the changes," he said.
The Hill offers excellent vantage points to enjoy the action, which is often tail-out thrills and spills for spectators.
"There will be some of Australia's fastest open-wheel hill climb specials ,and a range of classic cars such as GT Falcons," Mr Bowden said.
