BREATHE deeply... the third Star Wars trailer has been released and the internet is collectively losing its mind.

The Force Awakens will act as the seventh film in the saga, set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi.

There are familiar faces and characters.

There are excellent robots, space-war battles and a variety of brightly-coloured lightsabres.

For the younger generation, this is their first opportunity to see a potentially decent Star Wars film at the cinema.

GIVE IN TO THE FORCE.

They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

AHL Group Marketing Director, Ian Sutherland expects Star Wars fans will be out in force.

"We're expecting ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will break records previously held by the final instalment of the Harry Potter franchise and the last film in the Twilight trilogy. December 17 is going to be a very exciting day for Star Wars fans," he said.

In Byron Bay, Palace Cinemas confirmed tickets for the film are on sale now for midnight screenings and opening week.

And if you are a hardcore Star Wars fan and can't wait until December, Palace Cinema Byron Bay is offering Australian premiere of the acclaimed  Elstree 1976  at the British Film Festival, running from October 28 - November 18.

The feature documentary tells the story of ten very different lives connected by their shared experience as extras in the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Ballina Fair Cinemas will also sell tickets from today using their brand new online ticket sales facility.

Management at Ballina Fair Cinemas confirmed the film will be screened in Ballina from December 17.
