Truckin' in the Tassie: Daryn Craig

EVEN though Daryn Craig is a well-established Tasmanian truck driver, he still nominates the Bruce Hwy in Queensland as the worst major road he has driven along.

I saw Hobart based Daryn on January 12 beside Tassie's Midlands Hwy and he drives a Mitsubishi light truck for Computertrans which has its head office in Sydney.

"I carry sensitive freight and have travelled between Hobart and Devonport and Tasmania is a beautiful place to work and live,” he said.

His main hobby outside work is fishing and he has some luck catching flathead in the waters around Eaglehawk Neck.

His dislike of the Bruce Hwy occurred when Daryn lived at Airlie Beach in north Queensland some years back.

"It is very rough in many places and you have to be careful when driving on it,” he said.

His last four years working in Tasmania have been a real pleasure, according to Daryn.

"Tasmania is the best state in Australia, by far,” he said.

Daryn said he enjoys the weather and even when it's cold, in your truck you pretty much live in whatever climate suits you.

This driver stands at 165cm tall and said that could be both an advantage and liability in his job.
