A TRUCKIE was left red-faced at Burleigh on the Gold Coast this afternoon when his load didn't quite make it at an underpass.

The truck was heading west on Bermuda St at Burleigh towards the M1 when a large skip bin crashed into the overpass and came off the back of the truck.

No one was hurt in the accident, but one lane of traffic was blocked for several hours.

Towie Bernard De Winter said it looked like the truckie may have accidentally activated the control that lifts the load, causing it to be higher than it should be in transit.

It is believed the large bin was full of garbage, luckily none spilt onto the road.

The scene was cleared within an hour.
