Rumours were rife across Warwick this morning about the cause of the closure, with many pointing to financial distress.

Warwick Chamber of Commerce president Lewis von Stieglitz was unaware that the hotel had shut down.

He said it came as a surprise considering a major expansion of the Palace Hotel had only recently been approved by Southern Downs Regional Council.
