Weather watch: thunderstorms west of Brisbane

Heidi Costello

THE Brisbane CBD looks set to avoid the brunt of Wednesday afternoon's storms, the Bureau of Meteorology says, however the area could receive rain later in the day or early Thursday.

About 1pm, BoM forecaster Adam Blazak said storms were detected west of Archerfield, however they were tracking north-west and away from the city.

"At this stage the city might miss out," he said.

"There are a number of troughs lingering around, but it's more likely away from the coast at this stage.

"There's still a possibility of a storm over the city any time between now and tomorrow."

At 1pm, BoM had not issued any weather warnings for south-east Queensland.
