Woman captured after jumping into river to flee arrest

A 24-year old Nerang woman has been charged with a number of offences after an alleged traffic incident in Broadbeach yesterday morning.

It will be alleged that just before 9am the woman and two men were involved in a four-vehicle traffic crash on Bermuda Street near the Monaco Street Bridge.

It will further allege that an altercation ensued and that the woman and the two men attempted to leave the scene of the crash.

Police arrived at the scene and the woman was taken into custody but it is alleged she resisted arrest and jumped into a nearby river. Police retrieved the woman a short time later and she allegedly continued to resist efforts to arrest her.

A subsequent search of the woman's vehicle allegedly located drug paraphernalia.

The 24-year-old woman was charged with three counts of serious assault of a police officer and one count each of assault or obstruct police, driving without due care and attention, driving a vehicle without a licence and possessing a drug utensil.

She is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
