WHILE $2 barely buys a bottle of milk these days, when a stranger gave a little girl a gold coin for a horse ride, she was over the moon.

Pharaoh Shonhan's mum Jess Lange shares her story.

We were shopping at Station Square in Maryborough after the markets when my daughter stopped at the horse ride and asked if she could have a go.

I told her she had to wait until we finished shopping before she could go for a ride and she was really good about it.

She followed me and as we got further I turned around after hearing a man yelling 'mum, mum'.

At first I thought I had dropped a shoe or something.

He said 'here is $2 for your daughter for a ride on the horse'.

He handed the money to my daughter and I told her to say thank you to the man.

He told me he had just been visiting his own grandchildren in Cairns and he knew how the smallest things just brighten up little ones lives.

It was such a nice surprise and she was just so excited she carried the money around telling strangers 'a man gave me money for the horse'.

She was so excited when she finally got to ride the horse before we left the the shopping centre.
